Alma Sábia (Wise Soul): the sea doesn’t ask for performance, it asks for presence

After 60, the sea doesn’t ask for performance; it asks for presence. A time of legacy, vitality, and turning experience into wisdom the younger school of fish inherits.

The seven-year cycle, from within

From 49 on, and more strongly after 60, the tide of biography turns: what was once achievement wants to become offering. These are the cycles of the spirit — when accumulated experience can turn into wisdom made available, finding language and community.

In the water, this phase has a beauty of its own: the body relearns lightness without impact, breathing becomes meditation, and every dive is less about arriving and more about being there. Christiane took her first wipeout at 63 — and discovered it could be a massage, or a meditation inside the swirl.

In Wise Soul 60+, residents and visiting students meet monthly for science, art and nature observation, storytelling, and initiation in the water. A strong school of fish has fish of every age.

The Legend of the Golden Dolphin · Chapter V — The island, the mermaid, and the gold that gives itself back

Wise Soul, in the voice of the Fishman

~5 minutes

The journey was long, exhausting. He surfed giant ocean waves, learned about the winds and swells on beaches around the world, and nearly drowned venturing into an indescribable storm — lightning, thunder, the full force of nature before him. He came to carry reverence and humility in his heart. Now he sensed the forces of God at work on the planet; it was as if the ocean itself were pointing the way.

Suddenly, he spotted an island far in the distance. He knew it was there. He began to surf, to flow, to spin, to fly in total harmony with that perfect living energy. He was the wave, the wave was him — there was no difference. He felt united with the whole planet, like a fruit that feels itself part of the tree and is also the tree itself.

· · ·

Resting in a quiet bay, he found himself surrounded by beings he had never seen — and had the feeling of meeting himself. All in reverence, pointing at the golden markings on his skin. It was then revealed that this small orphan had become the Golden Dolphin of the ancient legend: the one who would come from a long journey, learning from the elements — earth, water, air, and fire — to become a prince of himself, capable of building a new world, full of beauty, goodness, and truth.

But the legend also told that those people were enchanted by a mermaid with hair of serpents and eyes of glowing jellyfish. Her beauty hid a spell that left beings with a blank stare, a mechanical life, without meaning. She is the mermaid who still sings today, in the ceaseless noise of the world: the normosis of dysrhythmia, that lulls living people into dead routines.

· · ·

The dolphin did not defeat her by force. He followed his finely honed intuition, and began to teach everyone present all that he had learned. Unhurried. He knew that this was the first step of a new time, in which each one could find their own path and be a prince of themselves, leaving apathy and hopelessness behind. And the more he taught, the more he learned.

And so time passed, and he became a great sage, counselor, teacher, and student to many other beings of the planet. After sixty, the sea doesn’t ask for performance; it asks for exactly this: presence that wakes others up. Today they say he lives in the heart of young warriors, when they call on his strength as they enter the sea to surf perfect waves with nothing but their body and a pair of fins.

In the water: meditative surfing — peace, presence, integration. In life: turning experience into wisdom the school of fish inherits. The gold, instead of being spent, multiplies.
