Personalized Immersions with the Fishman

An initiatory journey designed by hand, at your own pace. For individuals, couples, families, friends and small groups of 1 to 5 people. Not a tour package, not a generic retreat: a laboratory of human expansion led personally by Henrique Pistilli, the Fishman, with the most seasoned network of partners on the island.

By application and selection interview only. You do not need to know how to swim.

The invitation

Deep immersion. Transformative emersion.

You do not come to Noronha to look at the sea. You come to enter it — and to find out what happens to a person when the ground leaves from under their feet and the only thing left is their own rhythm.

The immersion is the descent: the silence underwater, the breath-hold, the wave that arrives bigger than expected, the biography that surfaces uninvited.

The emersion is the return — and that is where the work lives. Coming back with a different breath to the same Monday morning meeting.

Who we are

A school whose courtyard is the Atlantic Ocean

IMUA Escola do Mar was born in Fernando de Noronha in 2012, out of the conviction that the sea is the oldest teacher we have — and that learning from it changes the way a person leads, decides, relates and inhabits their own biography. We do not sell tours: we lead crossings. What you learn in the water — to breathe, to wait for the set, to choose the wave, to accept the wipeout — goes home with you, into the meeting room, to the dinner table, into the next crossing.

15+Years in Fernando de Noronha

A school based on the island — not a seasonal operation.

22Years of the Fish Method

Created in 2005 and refined in the water, year after year.

20Seasons in Hawaii and Indonesia

Learning with Hawaiian, Indonesian and Indigenous masters.

35Assets on Canal OFF

28 episodes, 4 documentaries and 3 publications.

Two shores, one school of fish. IMUA Escola do Mar runs the immersions, the mentoring and the work with living organizations. Instituto IMUA Cultura Oceânica brings free ocean education to the island community. Whoever sails with us feeds both.

The central axis. Wealth lies in the diversity of generations. From community water polo to the 60+ Alma Sábia programme, educating through the ocean is the centre — today and in the future.

Who it is for

A small school of fish, designed around you

01

Individuals in transitionPeople between two chapters — a career change, the end of a cycle, the turn of a seven-year period — who need neutral ground to see the next step. The crisis of 28-35, the search of 42-49, the return of 49+.
02

CouplesTwo biographies that met and need to see each other again. Water removes the mask before any conversation: what you do when the wave comes says more than a year of couples therapy.
03

FamiliesParents, children and grandparents in the same water. Each generation learns in its own way and all of them learn together — the multigenerational encounter that gives the immersion its density.
04

Friends and small groupsBusiness partners, friends of a decade, lean teams. A school of fish that already exists and wants to discover how it breathes together when the environment stops being controllable.

No groups closed by age or by technical level. The group is small precisely so that the difference between people fits inside it.

The one-of-a-kind method

Fish Method: phenomenology, anthroposophy and ocean wisdom

Created in 2005 and refined over 20 seasons with Hawaiian, Indonesian and Indigenous masters, the Fish Method stitches together spiritual science, human biography and ancestral ocean cultures inside the water — with the body, not with slides. Goethean phenomenology: observe the phenomenon before explaining it. Anthroposophy and seven-year cycles: knowing which cycle someone is in changes everything you propose to that person in the water. Ocean wisdom: rituals, ancestral navigation, the 30 Hawaiian moons — the sea as calendar and as master.

“Maximum result, minimum effort.”

Aquacidade — the founding principle. Taking a wipeout is part of it. Mastery is not in avoiding turbulence: it is in reading the set of waves and gliding with the least possible resistance. That is what is trained in the water — and that is what returns to life.

01

Shark · physical body, safetyArriving, touching the bottom, breathing. Territory recognition, reading currents, water safety and real limits. Without a physical base and trust in your own body, no crossing happens.
02

Moray · vital body, fluiditySurrender to rhythm. Breathing, apnea, floating, economy of movement. Here the stiffness most people arrive with dissolves — the hurry, the control, the excess of force.
03

Booby · emotional body, creativityThe vertical dive. Emotion, biography, whatever surfaced when the body relaxed. The phase of creative courage: choosing the wave, accepting the wipeout, laughing at the fall.
04

Dolphin · spiritual body, authenticityThe school of fish that breathes together. Purpose, belonging, synchrony. Here a person stops swimming against and starts swimming with — with themselves, with the group, with the current of their own life.

Human biography

Life in cycles of seven years

Nobody arrives in Noronha in the abstract. They arrive inside a seven-year cycle — and it is the cycle that determines which question the sea will ask. Before the immersion, we map your biography: where you are, what has closed, what has not yet opened.

01

28 to 35 · the crisisThe mould that worked until now becomes tight. First deep revision of inherited choices. Here the sea works on structure and limits.
02

42 to 49 · the searchPlenty of competence and not enough meaning. The cycle that seeks us out the most. Here the sea works on purpose and truth.
03

49+ · the returnTime to transmit. Harvest, legacy, mentoring of the generations that follow. Here the sea works on delivery and belonging.

Structure of the journey

How much time the sea needs with you

The golden rule of the method: the itinerary serves the person — never the other way around. No activity is mandatory and no day is fixed the night before. We read tide, wind, body and mood every single day. The menu is possibility, not schedule: what enters your journey is decided with you, on the island, looking at the sea of that day.

01

2 to 3 days · the divePhases 1 and 2 in depth. For those with little time and a lot of willingness. Sea Coach, Aquacidade and the first ritual.
02

4 to 5 days · the cycleAll four phases. This is the duration in which most turning points happen — the body has time to assimilate.
03

6 to 7 days · the crossingFull cycle with room for the unexpected: the tide that opens, the volunteering day, the conversation that was not in the plan.
04

Before and afterBiographical map before the trip and online mentoring on the way back. The immersion begins and ends off the island.

The complete journey

Immersion in Noronha · 4 days

Fishman Immersions season: July to November and February to May. These are the two windows of the year when the island, the sea and the Fishman’s own calendar meet. Outside them we do not open journeys — dates are agreed in the conversation, after the application.

The menu · 15 authorial experiences

Fifteen possibilities. Your journey uses yours.

01

Personalized Sea CoachCoaching inside the water, with your biographical question translated into aquatic practice. Where the method stops being a concept.
02

Aquacidade and bodysurf at Cacimba do PadreThe school-beach. Reading the set, positioning, breathing and the art of gliding with the wave instead of fighting it.
03

SeaCoach Infinito · Morro Dois IrmãosThe contemplative crossing to the island postcard, done slowly, in silence, with breathing stops.
04

IMUA LogbookThe handmade notebook that has accompanied IMUA since 1998: 72 pages of record, drawing and writing. You take yours home filled by your own crossing.

Hawaiian canoe at sunriseSix people, one rhythm, a single stroke. The most direct practice of leading a school of fish there is. With Alef Alves and Thiago Mariano.
08

Private boat · crossing of NoronhaThe whole island by sea, with no agency schedule. Swim stops wherever the water asks, lunch on board, spinner dolphins in formation.
09

Contemplative sailing at sunsetSail, silence and the sun going down at Boldró. The slowest activity on the menu — and the one most people ask to repeat. With Lukas Costa.
10

Yoga, body presence and ReikiThe counterpart on land. Open body in the morning, energetic integration at night. With Mariana Longman.
11

Luau with tarot and ancestral ritualFire, sound, card and the reading of the 30 Hawaiian moons. The night the journey leaves the physical plane.
12

Artistic and cultural experiencesMusic, painting, poetry — whatever the experience asks to become form.
13

Instituto IMUA · volunteering and legacyA day inside the free programmes of the island. Ceasing to receive in order to begin to give back.
14

Opening and closing ritualsEvery crossing needs a doorway at the entrance and a closure at the exit. The two moments the body keeps as landmarks.
15

Audiovisual coverageProfessional photo and video during the journey. You come back with the real record of the crossing — not with a selfie from the lookout.

Fish Method · Cacimba

Sea Coach at Cacimba

Fish Method · canoe

Sea Coach in the canoe

Fish Method · boat

Sea Coach on the boat

The school of fish that holds it up. No immersion is made by one person alone. Alef Alves and Thiago Mariano on the canoe and the boards, Doug Monteiro on diving, Lukas Costa on sailing, Mariana Longman on yoga and reiki, Michele Roth on Lomi Lomi and photography, Maira Kellerman and Lua Lino on audiovisual. Islanders and partners of many years — the island welcoming, not the island being consumed.

The legacy · non-profit arm

Instituto IMUA Cultura Oceânica

It brings free ocean culture to the residents of Fernando de Noronha — children, young people, adults and elders — so that the island is cared for by those who inhabit it. Every immersion can include a day of volunteering at the Institute: the part of the journey where you stop receiving and begin to give back — and, in practice, it is usually the part that stays.

01

IMUA Salvar · since 2015Training in water safety and rescue, in partnership with the Fire Brigade. An islander who knows how to rescue makes a safer island.
02

Alma Solar · since 2017Children and young people of the island learning to swim, paddle and read the sea. Community water polo, bodyboard, Aquacidade and belonging.
03

Alma Sábia · 60+ programmeWater as therapy and companionship for the elderly. The sea gives lightness back to a body that has already carried a great deal.

IMUA · ocean culture

Ocean culture for every age

Before and after

The immersion begins and ends off the island

Seven days change a person. Seven days without preparation and without integration change a person for three weeks. That is why every journey has an antechamber and a return.

Preparation mentoring. Biographical reading, definition of the question you bring to the sea, and physical and breathing preparation. Whoever arrives prepared makes the most of the very first day.

Integration mentoring. Sixty-minute sessions, online, at the pace life allows. This is where what happened in the water becomes decision, conversation and concrete change. Without integration, an immersion becomes a beautiful memory — not a change.

“Ask the sea.”

The IMUA Logbook — since 1998, every student receives their own. Seventy-two pages to write, to draw and to give back to paper what the body understood before the mind did. It is the object that survives the trip.

Application · interview · selection

You do not need to know how to swim. You need to want to cross.

The sea does not belong to us. It is we who belong to it. Every wave is a lesson; every school of fish, a school. The door is the Application to the Cardume: you fill in the form, we read your moment, and only then do we talk to design the journey.
